Payette
About Payette The City of Payette began as a trading post for the Hudson Bay Company and was incorporated as a city in 1891. The county became a hub of agricultural production when settlers realized there was more money in providing food to gold rushers than there was actually panning for gold. In 1907, there were more fruits and vegetables shipped from the area than any other state. The City of Payette is situated along the western border of Idaho next to Oregon and is the point where the Payette River flows into the Snake River. Although the City of Payette has deep roots in agricultural production, business opportunities continue to expand with Idaho's main North-South arterial--U.S. Highway 95--running through the city. The downtown sector also continues to attract new businesses as is maintains the historical aspect to many of the buildings.
